Introduction

The Mathematics Colloquium is an intra-departmental student body aimed to foster student - faculty interaction and carry out various student activities of the Department of Mathematics. We are pleased to inform you that the Colloquium is organizing Regional Symposium on Mathematics and visions to establish it as a departmental tradition which shall be continued inexorably in the subsequent years with unabated exuberance and zeal.

Objectives

The primary motivation behind this effort is to celebrate the Queen of all Sciences i.e. Mathematics itself. We aim to have an exposure to the advances in and prospects of research in the various fields ranging from Pure Mathematics to those involving application of Mathematics like Astrophysics or Mathematical Biology. Through this we also aim to provide an avenue for exchange of ideas between the faculty and those visiting, to lead to greater possibilities of future research work in hitherto unexplored domains or for collaborative expeditions. We also wish to orient the uninitiated minds to the world of research and help to remove the various misconceptions the students have about higher studies in Mathematics and career prospects thereon. Thus overall, this is an attempt to highlight the elegant nature of the subject which is often overshadowed by the intimidating veneer of complexity and morbidity. Moreover, since the Colloquium has been earnestly pursuing the task of organizing competitions for the students of the department, this platform will provide yet another chance for them to actively participate in such events.
